I don't know why, but this little info I got from my Biology teacher's 50 minute lecture on human reproduction provoked my feminist temperament.
Did you know that sperms that carry the Y chromosome swim faster, but die at an earlier stage than the sperms that carry the X chromosome? That makes the initial probability of XY fertilization by a Y chromosome-carrying sperm with an X chromosome-carrying secondary oocyte quite high, but then most of the sperms die on their way to the egg, so the X chromosome-carrying sperms have the better chance of winning the genetic battle. So it's no wonder that there are more women in the world than men. Cool. BUT BUT it's also really no wonder that men can have 4 wives, because if one man only marries one woman, then there will be a lot of 40-year-old female virgins living with their 27 cats, just waiting for their time to rot in misery.
Darn it, there goes Bruni's fictional hopes again. Even nature's against it.
Shittake betul la.
